Maggie Pickens, fling - FREE download
Maggie Pickens, a fling from Donegal. I usually dance/perform 10 or 12 steps in a row which would equate to 5 or 6 times through the tune, you might like to add a key change for interest. I have transcribed the tune in the keys of G and A.
Remember, that a dancer will need an intro before the first A part, this could be a whole A part, or the last 4 bars of the A or B sections.
Summary - you will receive an PDF file of the fling, one A4 page of manuscript, if this page size doesn't work for you, drop me a line.
You might like to compare this tune with Single Time, a jig from the Dan Furey repertoire and also available as a free download. Michael Tubridy refers to "Maggie Pickens" and "Single Time" as cousins.
I have taught Maggie Pickens many times, at both beginner and advanced levels. I was also asked to create an online / home-study course for Féile Róise Rua during covid, and that workshop is still available to view, a free resource. The videos are aimed at the beginner dancer. To be truthful, this was my first attempt at video editing; one day I would like to revisit it and add some improvements!

Part of the beauty of the Irish dance tradition is that it continues to be passed on from one generation to the next.
